Bekaert's in-house engineering division designs, assembles and installs production machines and plant infrastructure for the Bekaert manufacturing units worldwide. Bekaert's largest engineering plants are located in Ingelmunster (Belgium) and Jiangyin (China). As a result of Bekaert's strong organic growth, notably in Asia, the Bekaert China Technology & Engineering Center (BTEC) had outgrown its existing premises in Jiangyin. The relocation to a new, spacious building coincides with the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the entity.
The new plant is located in the Jiangyin economic development zone. It covers 30 000 m² and employs around 1 000 people. The main focus of the entity lies in developing and assembling energy-efficient, high-performance equipment for the Bekaert plants in Asia and beyond. Other activities relate to designing total plant layouts and implementing a global spare parts and maintenance management system for the region.
Marc de Sauvage, President of Bekaert Engineering, said: “the inauguration of this brand new BTEC plant endorses Bekaert’s commitment to further strengthen its technological leadership while applying the highest standards for optimized energy conservation and reduced environmental impact.”
Geert Roelens, Group Executive Vice President Bekaert Steelcord, spoke as the largest customer of Bekaert Engineering: "the high degree of flexibility and creativity of the BTEC team has helped us realizing the major expansion programs of Steelcord China in recent years. We will continue to count on excellent engineering services to support our further growth in Asia and beyond."
Mr. Sun Xiaohu, Vice Director of Jiangyin Municipal Economic Development Zone, expressed his appreciation for Bekaert’s commitment to the economic development of Jiangyin over the years. “Bekaert plays a very important role in building the technological image of Jiangyin by concentrating and expanding its Asian innovation and engineering expertise here.
