Wire rod

Annually, 1350 million tonnes of steel are produced worldwide. Wire rod, Bekaert’s main raw material, represents 76 million tonnes of this annual steel production. Being independent, Bekaert annually sources on average 2.5 – 2.8 million tonnes of steel wire rod from steel suppliers all over the world in over 250 compositions: in low or high carbon, plain or alloyed steel. Depending on the application, standard or specialty rods are bought.
In function of the content of carbon, the pressure on the wire results in different behavior: deformation or absorption.
Through extensive rod selection, reception control and development in close cooperation with our steel suppliers, we are able to guarantee our customers wire rod of high, consistent, defect-free quality, tailored to their needs. Our extensive knowledge of wire rod is at the basis of our metal transformation know-how.
