Platinum Coating on Titanium PTL
Platinum Coating on Titanium PTL
Coated titanium contributes to a higher level of performance in PEM water electrolysis compared to non-coated titanium. Our titanium Porous Transport Layer can feature a platinum coating for optimal durability - as shown in the white layer on the image here. Noble metals like platinum reduce contact resistance while keeping conductivity elevated in acidic environments - even in thin layers. This ensures the stability and conductivity of PTLs, resulting in high connectivity and improved resistance to corrosion and oxidation.
Over time, the acidic environment of PEM causes the buildup of an added oxide layer. This will lead to the degradation of the component. But the addition of a platinum coating can prevent the formation of insulating Ti-oxide layers. This coating results in a direct contact between PTL and catalyst. By increasing connectivity, the platinum coated titanium offers enhanced conductivity and performance.
