AcroLabs is a leading AEM electrolyzer stack manufacturer, globally and in South Korea. Their advanced electrolyzers operate in a highly diluted alkaline environment, ensuring safety and efficiency. Using cost-effective materials and PGM-free catalysts, AcroLabs produces high-purity hydrogen efficiently.

A crucial component in their electrolyzer stacks is the Porous Transport Layer (PTL), which facilitates oxygen gas removal and provides electrical and thermal conductivity. AcroLabs relies on Bekaert, known for their high-quality PTLs in PEM electrolyzers, and now expanding into the AEM market. Bekaert supplies Titanium, Nickel, and Stainless Steel PTLs for both PEM and AEM electrolyzers.

Production

AcroLabs selected Bekaert’s nickel felt for its consistent performance, including:

  • Stable thickness,
  • Constant pore size,
  • Superior compressibility, and
  • Reduced mechanical deformation compared to nickel foams.

Leader in Green Hydrogen Technology

Incorporating Bekaert’s materials, AcroLabs has integrated them into their 200 kW AEM electrolyzer stack (see image). This marks a significant milestone in green hydrogen technology. In Q2-Q3 2024, the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning, under the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, will lead a project titled "Development of Technology for Local Production of Green Hydrogen Popular 200kW Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) Water Electrolysis System," hosted by AcroLabs.

Next, AcroLabs will develop a 1 MW AEM water electrolysis stack and commercial system linked to renewable energy, supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. This project further establishes AcroLabs as a leader in green hydrogen technology.
